Go to the "right" DOWN river, if you go left it gets narrow and shallow. Great place does anyone know if its still also a management are and can you still hunt it.įun fun place to go but I must say you have to watch out for the alligators but its a very beautiful place to go canoeing and also to take beautiful pictures and take a nice stroll with your loved one Ive done a lot of deer and hog hunting on that land. Went for a 15 miles trail run round trip. Used the access point off of CR-471 on the Pasco-Sumter county line. There are benches charcoal grills campgrounds a boat ramp and numerous hiking a casual bicycling trails but no bathrooms at the west tract location. Im only not giving it 5 stars because the variety of things to see was a little lacking, honestly probably more the fault of Florida than the park.Īmazing place to get away from everything and get lost in the wilderness. It was quite nice, the kids had a great time. Dogs were always barking in the distance from the local hunters. Did not notice to many fire rings or any developed campgrounds. I used this area for a quite place to sleep. Roads a bit rough probably would be best suited for a vehicle with clearance. Our Florida state record buck was taken here a 206" non-typical and I have double digit hog harvests over 200lbs on this property. Trophy hogs are abundant but you must put in the time and effort for success. This is a top Florida destination for Public Land Hog Hunting. You do need to keep an eye & ear out for the wild hogs though. But once we made it, we had the best time at the backcountry campsite! We did have to cross over two small swampy spots along the trail, but we made it to the site dry. and this Preserve is a HIDDEN GEM!!! The entrance for the West Tract is a bit difficult to find, as our GPS took us to the East Tract entrance twice. Ive been camping in Florida my whole life. Thid property is great, and since its free I highly recommend giving it a chance. You can also walk through 3 different ecosystems in a matter of hours. The sound of coyotes and boars can be heard at night occasionally, which is really a unique experience. The area is very wild, huge numbers of birds and different insects you cant see in many other places. The sites have a fire ring and a few benches along with many trails nearby. Following the well-marked trails, there are 4 different locations you can hike to and camp at. The main campground is similar to many other sites in the area, but the backcountry camping locations are the real gems of the property. This is an amazing place to hike and camp for experienced campers and families alike.
